Guayaquil Festivities Begin with Student Parades

The celebrations for the 191 years of Guayaquil’s independence officially began yesterday in with several student parades that started at 10:00 from the Olmedo street to Tomas Martinez.

The event was attended by the traditional marching bands of the schools benefiting from the “Más libros” Municipality program. Around 400 schools participated in the parade. “We hope that everybody marchs along the Simon Bolivar boardwalk on the next parade,” said Enrique Campuzano, “Más Libros” program coordinator, who chaired the event.

The parade ended in the early afternoon. Students continued their tribute to Guayaquil with the song “Mi ciudad” (“My City”) which was heard throughout the waterfront through speakers placed at intersections.
