Hamas says that its military commander is still alive after attack by Israel
The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas said today that the chief of its armed wing, Mohamed Deif, is alive and still in charge of the group after Israel tried to kill him in the Gaza Strip.
The wife and son of Mohamed Deif, chief since 2002 of Al Qassam Brigades, were killed on Tuesday night in an Israeli operation, which is considered was against him.
“The head of Al Qassam Brigades, Abu Khaled (war name of Mohammed Deif), is still alive and directs military operations,” said an unnamed source close to Hamas.
Before reporting the fact, Hamas issued a statement in which it affirms that it will continue launching rockets against Israel and that “the Israelis will not return home until the boss Mohamed Deif so decides.”
Asked to see if this meant that Mohamed Deif was alive, an official said that “the dead do not make decisions.”
