The real estate sector in Ecuador shall comply with new specifications to guarantee that the constructions are earthquake resistant.
“The norm is a means, not an end itself, is a means that allows us to raise the quality of construction, and avoid human and material losses due to seismic phenomena “, said the Minister of Urban Development and Housing Diego Aulestia, in a press conference held on August 18.
These new specifications are contained in the section “Seismic Loads: Earthquake Resistant Design” of the Ecuadorian Standard of the Construction, which is expected to sign.
The Minister clarified that the norm will apply for new homes and not for raised infrastructure or constructions in process.
