Heavy rains in Esmeraldas and Guayas
In Ecuador, several sectors in the provinces of Esmeraldas and Guayas were victims of the overflow of rivers. The strong currents swept away a house in Esmeraldas, while in Azuay, five houses were covered entirely by water.
Edmundo Rivas, President of the Board of Chumunde parish located in the Rioverde canton, which belong to the province of Esmeraldas, indicated that when the house was dragged by the current, three members of a family were inside: a child of 5 years, which was rescued alive, while yesterday the bodies of his mother, Maria Mera Vera, of 38 years, and his brother of 6 years, were found in the afternoon.
Also yesterday, the overflow of the Santa Barbara River located in the Gualaceo canton, in the province of Azuay, flooded several homes, as well as a park and other sectors.
The most affected sites were Patul Bajo, Citadel Jardines del Valle and more than one block of the linear park in the canton.
