Hugo Chavez: “Elect Maduro”
The departure of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela, to undergo a new operation, amid an announcement by the president himself while kissing a crucifix as an amulet he carries, concerned the crowded streets across the country, especially when it was said that vice President Nicolas Maduro is the political heir and successor.
Maduro, a former bus driver, has developed a dizzying political career alongside Chavez. For now is the vice president and continues as foreign minister. A man of Marxist-Leninist upbringing is considered the closest collaborator of the government to contribute to the Cuban revolution, consequently the brothers Fidel and Raul Castro.
Before leaving, the Venezuelan president called for the people to “elect Maduro as President, I beg you from my heart,” Chavez said, noting that if in case he is unable to continue in office it is up to his vice president to “conclude, as mandated by the Constitution, period.”
