IESS authorities propose to make adjustments in pensions increase and administration of contributions

Yesterday, officials of the IESS and members of the Commission on the Rights of Workers, chaired by Betty Carrillo, were received by the General Commission of the Assembly, however, Richard Espinosa, president of IESS sent mathematician Luis Tipán on his behalf.

Fausto Cayambe, Alianza País Assemblyman, projected that in 22 years, i.e. in 2037, there would be a deficit between employer contributions and pension payments, so he proposed to make adjustments in the increase of retirement pensions and a new administration in the contributions made by workers and employers.

Cayambe, at the same time, showed his support to the Government, whose proposal consists of eliminating the state contribution of 40% to the entity, and amend Section 371 of the Constitution, replacing it with the text “what it needs” (referring to IESS).

Betty Carrillo, when consulting Tipán on the issue if the elimination of the state contribution would cause the suspension of pension payments to retirees, he responded: “Pension payments would be suspended in no way, there is enough money to meet the obligations. That’s it.”

Meanwhile, Cristina Reyes, Assemblywoman (PSC), protested against the fact that Espinosa had been absent at the meeting, prompting an altercation with Carillo, who said that the government of the citizen’s revolution is the only one that has done the most for IESS. The claims of the present retirees were swift before the replica of government representatives.

Andres Ponce, Director General of IESS, said there is currently no state debt with the social security agency, by stating: “since there is no regulation,” because the payments are up to date.

The new amendments to the draft Labor Justice Law raise the limit to workers profits, the affiliation of housewives to the social security, the elimination of fixed-term contracts, the monthly payment of the bonuses and the paternity leave for a year.
