In a chat, Fernando Alvarado warned the Ministry of Justice that he was leaving
Ecuadornews:
At 18:21 last Saturday, the former Communication Secretary Fernando Alvarado was ‘dismissed’ from his custodians of the Ministry of Justice through a message in one of the WhatsApp chats he had with them. He thanked them for their kindness and told them that the electronic device had been removed since he left for the country that had granted him asylum (he did not mention it).
Twenty-two minutes later, the Interior Minister, María Paula Romo, tweeted that she had received an alert that Alvarado had removed the shackle and that he had ordered the start of search operations.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the last time the device warned about the location of Alvarado was at 2:57 pm that day, on Simon Bolivar Avenue and the street of Los Conquistadores, in Quito, where he traveled hours earlier from Guayaquil. The authorities found the device abandoned on Saturday at that site, but did not detail the exact time.
Just a day before, Alvarado appeared in the Court of Justice of Guayas to comply with the precautionary measure imposed by Judge Sylvia Sánchez in the criminal proceedings for embezzlement against him. It was the fifth time he did it.
In a brief dialogue with this newspaper, via WhatsApp, the former official said that he maintained permanent contact with the Ministry of Justice through two numbers. He told them about breakdowns in the shackle or about their movements.
His interlocutors varied. They could be men or women. Of the Coast or the Sierra.
They also called him at his home, cell phone or electronic device.
Alvarado declined to reveal his location. This is because he said that his lawyers recommended waiting for the country that received him to authorize him to take that step and specify the conditions he must respect.
The asylum had been requested “immediately after the abuse and illegalities committed against me by the penal system. I clearly understood that I would not have a transparent and fair process, “he said. (I)
