In the National Court a trial hearing is held against Carlos Pólit and his son, for concussion

The trial hearing against the former Comptroller, Carlos Pólit and his son John, accused of the crime of concussion, began this Monday, May 28, 2018, at the National Court of Justice.
Before 09:00 the procedural parts began to arrive, among them Pólit son, accompanied by his lawyers. Julio César Vasco attended as defense of the former Comptroller. He will be tried in absentia, since he has been a fugitive since June 2017.
It was expected that at least 100 witnesses and experts would appear throughout this proceeding, but the number was reduced to almost 40, as the parties decided to dispense with some testimonies.
The State Attorney General, Paúl Pérez announced that he will prove that the former Comptroller and his son acted as the perpetrator and accomplice of the crime respectively, having allegedly demanded USD 10.1 million from the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Pólit father would have demanded and received from Odebrecht USD 6 million for the fade of glosses for the failures in the construction of the San Francisco hydroelectric plant and USD 4.1 million to issue favorable reports in four strategic projects: Daule-Vinces, Pacific Refinery (flattening of land), Refinería del Pacífico (Acueducto La Esperanza) and Manduriacu.
While Polit son would have placed the money received, in the form of loans, in two companies: the real estate Cosani and Plastiquim. For its part, the defense of Carlos and John Polit said that their defendants have no connection with the crime that is accused.
The witnesses began to give their versions before noon and in the afternoon. Édgar Flores, Iván Saquicela and Marco Rodríguez make up the court that will be in charge of analyzing the elements that are delivered throughout the hearing. (I)
