Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas are handled
Posted On 06 Aug 2014
On the second day of a cease-fire that ended a month of war, Israel and Hamas began indirect talks this Wednesday on a new border agreement for Gaza.
Israel wants the Islamic militant Hamas disarms, or at least ensure that no rearmament, before responding to a claim for reopening the borders of the territory, closed since when Hamas took power in Gaza in 2007.
The proximity talks are held in Cairo where Egyptian mediators are moved between the delegations of both sides.
The disarming of Hamas tops the list of Israeli demands presented at a meeting with Egyptian negotiators on Tuesday night, said an Egyptian security official who spoke on anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
