Industrialists meet today for possible tax adjustment

Increased taxes on sugary and alcoholic drinks and cigarettes, announced by the government, prompted an urgent meeting today of representatives of the sectors involved to discuss the scope of the government’s proposal.

Christian Wahli, president of the National Association of Food and Beverage manufacturers, said that the meeting will be held in Quito, from 14:00, with delegates of the food and beverage industry.

Wahli criticized the government’s announcement. “It is a difficult situation. A number of ministries asked us for help in projects, cooperation, job creation and suddenly they come up with this. So we must review our strategy of cooperation,” he said.
