The divorce rate has increased by at least 58.55% from 2000 to 2009, said today the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC). While in 2000 there were 10 796 cases in 2009 there were 17 117.
Unlike the divorces, the INEC states that marriages are stalled in the same period, relative to population increase, revealing that in 2000, 74 875 Ecuadorians got married; in 2009, 76,892.
The age range in which women take this decision is 25 to 30 years. Men divorce between 30 and 35 years, according to these released figures.
