Intercultural Education Law was Approved
Posted On 12 Jan 2011
Intercultural education law was approved yesterday in the National Assembly with 116 votes.
The new ecuadorian law ensures that 139 thousand teachers in the country will receive a living wage of $700, and it also guarantees that the amount of retirement will increase.
Yesterday, Fernando Cordero, president of the National Assembly, assured that teachers would receive a pension of $36 thousand. The statement was made outside the legislative chamber, in front of a thousand people who attended the assembly to request the approval of the bill.
However, the independent activist, Nivea Velez, assured that the teachers who retired in 2008 will not receive this benefit.
