International Observers Concerned About the Quick Count by CNE

Posted On 05 May 2011

International observers, who arrived the country to monitor the quick count of votes for the next referendum, turn out to be a few anxious about this process, since it is performed by the National Electoral Council (CNE), could undermine the independence to work.

If the CNE do that, one would think that could lead to some insight that ensures that there is total transparency in the issue of results, says Gilberto Rondon, the Electoral Council of Colombia.

Other observers explain that it is unprecedented, because in other countries, the quick count always makes an independent firm and, indicating that it’s necessary the presence of political parties and other stakeholders during the counting of votes because, “believe that the figure of international and domestic observers can replace the work of control (…) is a mistake.”
