Interpol refuses to participate in the Mahuad case
The International Police Organization (Interpol) has decided to deny the request of the Ecuadorian courts to include in the red notice list (international arrest warrant), former President of Ecuador, Jamil Mahuad, accused of alleged embezzlement, arguing that the case has a “predominantly political nature”.

Jamil Mahuad, former president of Ecuador, currently lives in the U.S.
The Office of Legal Affairs of Interpol’s Secretariat, located Lyon, France, said that on the grounds previously explained, “information concerning Mahuad will be removed from the Interpol databases.”
On her behalf, Judge Ximena Vintimilla from the National Court of Justice (CNJ for its Spanish acronym) requested the international body to reconsider its decision because, according to her, they are not justifying the reasons of why that decision was taken.
Last December, the CNJ confirmed the issuance of the order to capture former President Jamil Mahuad, who resides in the United States.
