Iran Urges Syria to End the Civil War

Recently Iran appealed to the Syrian government and the rebels to open peace talks channels. The announcement was made in hastily arranged international meeting regarding the conflict.
Ali Akbar Salehi, the Iranian Foreign Minister said his country opposed “any foreign and military intervention in resolving the Syrian crisis.” in Syria. Salehi told the diplomats from Russia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Cuba, Venezuela and other nations that Tehran is ready to host the peace dialogue for Syria. Salehi pointed out that Iran supports UN to end the bloodshed.
The conference gathered diplomatic representatives, mostly ambassadors, from 29 countries, including Iran. However none from Western states or Turkey, which supports the Free Syrian Army, made any comments. Arab countries in the Gulf that Iran accuses of arming Syrian rebels, were also absent. (AV)
