Italy became the leading destination for Ecuadorian exports to the European Union (EU) between January and April of this year, surpassing Germany, which until 2016 was the main buyer of the bloc.
According to Pro Ecuador, these months sales rose by 56.2% compared to the same period in 2016. The agreement with the European Union (EU), in force since January 1st, has influenced, explained the commercial aggregate of the Embassy of Italy Ariella Ullian.
The exporters agree with this, adding that the agreement brought stability because it definitively eliminated import tariffs. Italians increased the demand for local products and signed long-term contracts.
Among the products that Italy buys the most from the country, according to Pro Ecuador, are shrimp, tuna, shrimp, roses, etc. However, the Ecuadorian star is bananas. This product represents 48.3% of total local sales to the Italian market.
