The ex-Minister of the Interior and current Assemblyman, José Serrano, rendered his version in the case of the murder of former Air Force Commander Jorge Gabela.
The diligence was conducted behind closed doors in the General Prosecutor’s Office. The legislator entered the entity at around 2:00 p.m. on this Tuesday, July 17, 2018 through the back door and withdrew to the same place without giving any statements.
For an hour and a half he gave details of the actions carried out by the Interministerial Committee, which was created to investigate the murder in 2012, and of which he was an active member.
Patricia Ochoa, wife of the ex-commander of the FAE, was present at Serrano’s appearance. At the end of the proceeding, she told the media that the former Minister of the Interior confirmed that the report of the expert Roberto Meza, who investigated the crime, was delivered in 2015 to then President Rafael Correa.
That is, two years after the expert presented the results of the investigation to the Interministerial Committee. That information generated questions on the part of Ochoa. She asks the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate why the ministers took two years to deliver the results of the expert report to the former president.
In addition, he requested that he be asked why Correa did not give him the report after he received it. Ochoa also appeared on Tuesday at the National Assembly at 5:00 p.m. She entered the fifth floor of the Legislative Palace with her lawyer Ramiro Román.
There she appeared before the legislators that make up the occasional commission that will investigate the murder of the former military commander. The widow of Gabela told lawmakers that the Air Force should investigate if her husband was persecuted for his multiple complaints about the purchase of Dhruv helicopters.
“They have hidden the truth from us as relatives. The only thing that interests me is to rescue the good name of my husband, “she said.
The lawyer, Román asked the assembly members to investigate the possible acts of corruption in the purchase of the aircraft. Other relatives of the former military chief were present at the legislative session.
They talked about Gabela’s values and about the last moments of his life. Iván Guerrero, one of the relatives, stated the following: “The way in which the General spent his last years always worried us. He was an incorruptible person, he always told the truth about the Dhruv.”
The diligence in the Assembly ended after 7:30 p.m. on this Tuesday. This July 18, 2018 there will be more appearances. (I)
