Journalist Diego Oquendo is under Pretrial Investigation

President Rafael Correa’s lawyer Alembert Vera, who is currently working in the suit against Daily El Universo, wants to bring to court another journalist: Diego Oquendo.

The prosecutor of the Administrative Actions Unit of Pichincha, Jorge Nogales, reported the Ecuadorian newspaper Hoy on Tuesday, to send him the name of the author of the “news” entitled “Fregando la Pita” published in that media on June 27 this year.

Alembert Vera felt uncomfortable with the opinion column written by journalist Diego Oquendo published on June 27 in Hoy newspaper, entitled ‘Fregando la Pita’. Oquendo’s personal opinion was reproduced on July 8 in the pages of El Universo.

It is unknown which part of the writing has motivated the pretrial action of Vera, who yesterday said that his father and himself will be the ones involved in the investigation process. He said he will not use Correa’s name for a possible sue. The aim is “to know the full text that has been written and ask for amend.” This is not necessarily the beginning of a trial, he said. (FO)
