Judge Pacheco says he could not withstand pressure from the defense of El Universo

Enrique Pacheco, judge of the Second Division of the National Court of Justice talked, in a video posted on the government news agency Andes, about the health problem that did not allow him attend the hearing of El Universo. He said it was the intense pressure and intimidation by the defense of the newspaper that day.

In the video, Pacheco says he did not attend the hearing, but it was not because of pressure from the parties and admits to agree with President Correa for not accepting the conditional apology said by the managers of that newspaper. “That makes sense, I agree with the president,” Pacheco said in the interview where the Government reporter who made him several directed questions to let Pacheco talk about an alleged harassment by El Universo´s attorneys.

According to Pacheco, the defense of El Universo through the objections and other procedural actions created a pressure that he could not bear. “No I am a rock or cement,” says the judge who added that the medical decision was taken by the doctor of the National Court of Justice, which, he says, knew nothing about the hearing.
