The kidnapping became a strategy of the armed front Óliver Sinisterra to boost its drug trafficking operations on the northern border.

On March 26, this irregular group kidnapped the newspaper team of this newspaper. 18 days later, the murder of journalist Javier Ortega, photographer Paúl Rivas and driver Efraín Segarra was confirmed.
