La Conaie will not support the government´s candidate

The Enlarged Council of the Indigenous Movement held at the headquarters of the Conaie in Quito decided that to build a plurinational and intercultural project it is necessary to put an end to the Citizen Revolution.
On Thursday, February 23, 2017, indigenous organizations analyzed the electoral process and the political situation of the country concluding that they can not pronounce in favor of Guillermo Lasso because the decision shall be taken by the bases.
The meeting was attended by several indigenous leaders including Severino Sharupi, Carlos Pérez Guartambel, Jorge Herrera, Nina Pacari, Blanca Chancoso, César Umajinga, Salvador Quishpe and Humberto Cholango.
Jorge Herrera, president of the Conaie, said that one of the main issues of concern is the extraction of natural resources. For this reason, they will create an agenda that includes mobilization, anti-corruption, and economic policies.
