The ceremony of the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA‘s) 2011 took place Sunday night in Belfast, capital of Ireland. The singer and actress Selena Gomez hosted the show along with fellow actor David Hasselhof.
Lady Gaga, who attended the ceremony wearing a large hat over her face, swept the awards, taking the statuettes for best song and best video for “Born this Way” by the greatest number of fans, she also took home the prize for best female artist of the year.
Pop idol Justin Bieber also received two of the most important awards of the night, best male artist and best pop artist. “You’re the reason I’m here,” said the 17-year-old Canadian singer.
Rapper Eminem, who did not attend the ceremony, was named best hip-hop artist, while British band Queen received the “Global Icon Award” as a special recognition to his musical career.
