Larger cantons will be divided in districts in the upcoming elections
In the Sectional Elections of February 2014, 13 cities in the country will be divided into territorial districts in order to elect urban directors.
The National Electoral Council (CNE) began yesterday the first workshop of socialization of these new districts, in the delegation of Pichincha, with representatives of the political groups, social organizations and local authorities.
Of these 13 cantons, Guayaquil and Quito will be subdivided into three electoral districts, while Cuenca, Riobamba, Machala, Esmeraldas, Milagro, Loja, Quevedo, Portoviejo, Manta, Duran and Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas, into two.
CNE President, Domingo Paredes, Vice President Paul Salazar and Council member Nubia Villacis said the subdivision will serve to draw the candidates nearer to the needs of the population that they are representing.

Yesterday at the workshop, Miguel Jarrin, Voter Registration coordinator, makes an explanation.
