The President announced that when all the judicial investigations of the femicide case are finished, that property will be demolished and a new one will be built in its place.
After installing Juan Zapata as Minister of the Interior, President Guillermo Lasso went, on the morning of September 26, 2022, to the Superior School of Police, in the north of Quito.
President Lasso, along with Minister Zapata and other members of his Cabinet, toured the officers’ dormitory area, where Lieutenant Germán Cáceres allegedly murdered his wife, lawyer María Belén Bernal.
After the tour, the President announced that when all the judicial investigations of the femicide case are finished, that property will be demolished and, in the place, “new rooms with a gender focus will be built.”
Until then, the building was symbolically closed, after which Lasso walked with his collaborators to the central courtyard of the Police School, where the cadets were lined up.
Addressing them, the President described the crime as an “exception that does not mark the rule” of what happens within the National Police.
“I want to give them a pat on the back,” Lasso assured, addressing the police officers and cadets present, encouraging them to continue contributing to the control of crime throughout the country.
