Law opens possibility of putting an end to the armed conflict in Colombia
Posted On 10 Jan 2015
A law, enacted this week in Colombia, opens the way to countersign this year an eventual agreement for the end of the armed conflict, of over more than 5 decades, providing a tool that delineates in time the talks with the guerrillas, analysts said.
Standard 1745, signed on Tuesday, January 6 by President Juan Manuel Santos, said that the constitutional referendums for citizens to decide on a peacemaking covenant of the country may coincide with electoral events, without mentioning a date.
The government of Santos advances since two years ago a peace process with the main guerrilla group, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC for its Spanish acronym), and advances talks with the National Liberation Army.
