Lenín Moreno finishes visit to the USA with a speech before the OAS
Ecuadornews:

With a speech focused on the defense of democracy and human rights, President Lenin Moreno closed his activities in Washington.
On Wednesday, he met with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, before attending the protocolary session of the Permanent Council of this regional forum.
Almagro described Moreno as an “authentic democrat”, referring to the actions of his government in the fight against corruption, the defense of democracy, respect for freedoms, the strengthening of institutions, the measures taken with respect to the Venezuelan crisis as a country and at a regional level, among other aspects.
On the last point, Moreno suggested to the OAS to summon never to remain impassive or silent before the violation of democracy and the systematic violation of human rights. “The States have a duty to demand the cessation of violence against the civilian population wherever it occurs … Joint action, exercised in the protection of those rights, does not violate, under any circumstance, the principle of no intervention … within this framework is the position that Ecuador observes for Venezuela, Nicaragua or any country in which human rights are violated, “he added.
In his speech, he announced that the final report of the Special Monitoring Team formed by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to investigate the kidnapping and murder of the El Comercio journalist team on the northern border by dissidents of the FARC is ready and on stage of analysis for observations. And the Ministry of the Interior indicated that the Government is willing to declassify the information of the kidnapping, although a good part has been delivered, but not the criminal part that is in inquiry as a reservation.
The expectation in the interviews and in some public interventions of Moreno revolved around the retirement of the asylum to Julian Assange, who remained almost seven years in the Embassy of Ecuador in London.
Moreno also met with the new president of the World Bank (WB), David Malpass, the International Development Association (IDA), the directors of the member countries of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Ecuadorian professionals and the Inter-American Dialogue.
One of the objectives of the trip that began on Sunday was to publicize Ecuador’s public policy for people with disabilities, expose the Manuela Espejo Mission and the Whole Life Plan. (I)
