Muammar Gadhafi is surrounded within a radius of 60 km and the Libyan rebels said yesterday, adding that it is only a matter of time before the former Libyan leader is captured.
Anis Sharif, a spokesman for the new military council of Tripoli, said that Gadhafi is still in Libya as they have followed their movements with the help of advanced technology and human intelligence.
Libyan rebels have been surrounding the last bastions of Gadhafi in Libya, particularly the towns of Bani Walid, Sirte and Sabha, for days and they hope for a peaceful surrender.NATO, which backs the rebels, also confirmed Wednesday that it has launched several air strikes near Sirte, Gadhafi’s hometown, which reached six tanks, six armored vehicles and an ammunition dump, among other weapons.
However, several papers demonstrate the delivery of thousands of gas masks, chemical suits and protectionism at the last bastions of Gadhafi. The Organization for the Prohibition of chemical Weapons said Libya has more than 11 tons of mustard gas, which worries the rebels and the environment since Gadhafi could use mustard gas to stop the advance of the opposition. “Nothing has happened yet,” said Mohammed Benrasali, a leading member of the rebels. In any case, rebel commanders say they are moving cautiously in case Gadhafi launches a chemical attack because he has a history of using such weapons.
