Liquor still does not have the tax stamp
The National Customs Service of Ecuador (SENAE) will conduct operations from Friday October 9 against alcohol smuggling, especially imported whiskey, tequila, rum and vodka.
These types of liquor must show off a tax stamp on the cap, which has a code smartphones can read. The system enables to know from where, who and when it was imported, giving the customer the security that he is acquiring an original liquor, and giving tranquility to businessmen of not having an unfair price competition of those who do not pay taxes and sell it at a cheaper price.
The new taxes can encourage smugglers to bring more merchandise. Imported Whiskey, tequila, rum and vodka became more expensive again this year, after imposing a surcharge of 25%. A box with 12 bottles of Red Jhonny costs $ 660; while a domestic whiskey, $ 288. Per unit, foreign whiskey is $ 70 and the local costs $ 25.
