Litoral Prison will be demolished
Interior Minister Jose Serrano announced that the old building of the Litoral Prison in Guayaquil will be demolished.
“You will see how deplorable is that centre… trash… the conditions were really the worst. This cannot even be used as a warehouse… It has to be destroyed immediately,” said Secretary of State to the press last Tuesday in the Governorate of Guayas.
Meanwhile, the National Police and the Ministry have begun a coordinated program that allowed the transfer of 3,657 convicts. Surprisingly the transfer revealed inconsistencies because of the 780 inmates of Cell Block No. 1 of the Prison, 120 were not on the list.
According to Serrano, this would confirm the alleged “preference system” that existed in the old prison, in which cells or wards were exchanged.
Officials said the prison will have opened new controls on the distribution of inmates by pavilions according to their dangerous nature, there will be a new and different surveillance system for visits.
