Maduro takes accountability before the Assembly
The first accountability of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, before the National Assembly of his country was marked by the memory of his politic father Hugo Chavez. This “Report and Accounts” is a constitutional requirement that senior public officials must meet within the first 60 days of the year.
The Venezuelan leader decided to deepen on the economic bet created by Chavez, leaving aside any decree designed at the beginning of his term.
Maduro spoke about a possible devaluation of the bolivar, which according to analysts is necessity to relieve the fiscal deficit, while others say it would be a surprise that the President announce, in the middle of National Assembly, an unpopular measure.
The president also asked his Minister of Information and Communication, Delcy Rodriguez, a thorough review of the programming of the TV channels which are seen in Venezuela. It also covered issues like inflation, shortages and the price of gasoline on which Maduro may announce measures.
“This year will be the beginning of a plan of social pacification. Venezuela must rebuild itself from the sacred values of peace and respect for life ,” Maduro said.
