Manuela Picq plans to return to Ecuador

The Brazilian journalist Manuela Picq, is at home and will begin the process to obtain a visa from the Mercosur and be able to return to Ecuador to join her partner, the Ecuaruani president Carlos Perez Guartambel.
The Franco-Brazilian professor left the country last Friday after her visa was overthrown after taking part in the protests of August 13, and was denied a protective action to preserve it.
Javier Arcentales, lawyer of Picq in Quito, said they will processed a temporary visa (that lasts two years and allows to develop economic and academic activities), but is afraid this could be denied for political reasons. “The problem is the conception the State has regarding the granting and cancellation of visas, it is discretionary,” Arcentales said.
As part of the requirements, the Foreign Ministry demands the delivery of a visa application form, a certificate of criminal or judicial record of the country of origin or in which the applicant has lived in the last five years. The procedure costs $ 230.
