Mayor Nebot accepts to dredge access canal to the port of Guayaquil
Finally, given the possibility that the port is moved to a point between Posorja and Chanduy, Mayor Jaime Nebot has accepted the challenges made to him by the president Rafael Correa of dredging the access canal to Guayaquil and increase the depth of water.
On last Monday President Correa said that “dredging to 15 meters is technically and economically feasible. Or else we authorize the Municipality to do so and finance it with the dealer and the private ports “.
In response, Mayor Nebot announced he would deal with the dredging of 10 to 11 meters at low tide, with the condition that the port “continues to operate without government intervention”, that private ports continue to function and that the firm from Dubai interested in providing money for the deepwater port of Posorja may invest.
Meanwhile Correa said, “Wonderful! W all agree! Nebot accepts to dredge the harbor! Let’s see if he manages the 15 meters deep and the Post-Panamax vessels “. Although he warned that costs could take competitive from exporters.
