Mazda terminates its operations in Quito

The Maresa Corporation with forty years of experience, yesterday announced through various media the suspension of operations of its assembly plant located in the Equator. This suspension will last until new projects are implemented, it said in a statement.

At the same time, at least 300 employees of the assembly plant were fired, confirmed yesterday Jaime Arciniegas, Labour union leader of the Ecuadorian Parliament (PLE), who held meetings with the business sector to ensure labor rights.

Arciniegas said that some arrangement formula that included the rehiring when there was a revival of production was proposed, something that was not accepted.
