Megaupload Founder Could Bail Tomorrow
Tomorrow we will know whether or not to approve the release on bail of the founder of Megaupload.com, German Kim Schmitz, 37, a.k.a. Kim Dotcom.
Schmitz was arrested Friday along with three others responsible for Megaupload and flatly denied the accusations of American justice in the court of Auckland. US police says his direct download site violated copyright.
Prosecutors estimated that the risk of escape of the accused was “extreme,” explaining that he fled to Thailand in the past to be required for positions in Germany, opposed granting an electronic bail.
Moreover, the prosecutor said that police found ready to use passports under three different names and over 30 credit cards with different names in the house of the founder. Kim Schmitz and his three associates were arrested at the same time, though not charged in New Zealand.
The American justice, which seized 50 million dollars in assets and accuses Megaupload makers have obtained $ 175 million in profits, has 45 days to file an extradition request. The other three members managed to escape.
