Millennials and Generation X will take over the new Assembly in Ecuador
Of the 137 seats in the National Assembly, around 85% will be occupied by generation
According to data from the Legislative Observatory organization, faces that are between 43 and 58 years old will occupy 62 seats. They are called generation X, protagonists of the great changes in fashion and gender roles during the second half of the 20th century.

That generation witnessed important historical events during their youth and early adulthood, such as the arrival of humans on the Moon (1969), the birth of the first computer (1977), the AIDS epidemic (1981), the fall of the Berlin Wall (1989), the collapse of the Soviet Union and the End of the Cold War (1991).
In that group are, among others, Henry Kronfle, Eustaquio Toala, Paola Cabezas, Marcela Holguín, as the most visible faces.
Kronfle is emerging as a candidate for the Presidency of the Assembly, in a renewed alliance of the Social Christian Party (PSC) with Correismo, which this time will be joined by the bench of the new government of Daniel Noboa.
On the other hand, those between 27 and 42 years old, who are identified as Millennials , will occupy 53 of the 137 seats in the country’s Legislature.
They are called that because they witnessed the end of the 20th century and the second millennium of the current era, they are the first generation that was born immersed in the technological revolution of the end of the 20th century, reports the Concepto portal.
Ana Galarza, Leonardo Ordóñez, and Raisa Corral are part of this age group in Parliament.
The Baby Boomers, that is, people between 59 and 77 years of age, will have 15 seats. They are called that because of the significant rise in birth rates that they experienced. In that group are Pierina Correa, Lucio Gutiérrez and Patricio Carrillo.
While only seven positions will be occupied by generation Z, who are under 26 years of age. It is the first generation of digital natives in history, and includes those born between approximately 1997 and 2012.
Valentina Centeno and Jahiren Noriega are located in this group . The first is the coordinator of the official National Democratic Action (ADN) party, and the second was re-elected by the Correismo ranks.
The challenges
For Roger Celi, coordinator of the Legislative Observatory, the data show that there are more young people in this Assembly compared to previous periods.
This is a product of the electoral reforms, according to Celi, which ensured quotas for young people on the lists and promoted the replacement of political organizations.
He stated that it remains to be seen what agenda they will defend in the Legislature or if they will respond to orders from the old leaders of the political organizations.
“Usually, that does not usually happen and we are hardly going to see benches or parliamentary groups for youth. Even though they have already reached the Legislature, they still follow guidelines from historical leaders, presidents for life and others,” Celi noted.
In relation to gender, the Assembly will be made up of 59 women and 78 men, according to the Legislative Observatory.
