According to the Minister of Telecommunications, Vianna Maino, citizens will not be left without cell phone service, despite the fact that negotiations with the operators have not been closed.
While the deadline to close the negotiations with the telephone companies, Claro and Movistar, is running, the Minister of Telecommunications, Vianna Maino, reiterated that citizens will not be left without cell service.
Claro’s 15-year concession expires in August, while Movistar’s ends in November.
“For no reason are we going to be left without service. Regardless of the negotiations, the service will not be cut off,” Maino said in an interview with Teleamazonas, and reproduced by the Minister on her Twitter account.
According to Maino, the negotiations, suspended in May with the operators, are with the State and not with a particular government.
Maino affirmed that they continue advancing in the contract renewal process, since it is a key ‘public’ service for citizens.
“There are just over 17.5 million mobile service telephone lines, it is the most citizen public service that exists,” added the official.
In this sense, Maino announced that the State aspires to extend the contracts with the companies, and that they trust that the negotiations will conclude successfully in the government of Guillermo Lasso.
“We are going to extend the contracts for greater peace of mind for citizens and companies, which also require that peace of mind,” he added.
