Mobile companies seek to expand broadband to improve service

Posted On 14 Aug 2013

The telecommunications Minister, Jaime Guerrero, said yesterday that private mobile operators have requested more spectrum to expand and improve the quality of the service.

Therefore, in order to increase access to mobile internet users, the Government and private companies will negotiate the concession of  an additional radio spectrum of 1,900 MHz.

“We began negotiations this week to give them more broadband access, more frequencies;” It is very important for operators, is the tube where they sent the communication,”said Guerrero during the first International Forum on e-waste and electrical fields, which opened yesterday.

Likewise, the official indicated that mobile operators will have to pay for that concession, but clarified that for the moment he cannot specify the value because it is part of the negotiations.

José Manuel Casas, President of Telefonica (Movistar), said that it is necessary the concession of  more radio spectrum due to the fact that in recent years there has been a significant growth of data.
