Mobile operators shall evolve from 3G to 4G until July 1
Mobile Operators have until July 1, 2014 to improve its broadband service 3G to 4G, otherwise they will receive penalties. This, according to the Minister of Telecommunications Jaime Guerrero.
According to Guerrero, there are two viable ways to improve the service: first, is the purchase of the spectrum at the price determined by the State. But it is also possible to do it with network investment.
On the subject, José Manuel Casas, President of Movistar, explained that for the good quality of service is needed: available spectrum, municipal permits for installation of the bases and the investment of companies to install it.
In addition, Guerrero considered that the current participation of the public company CNT as the sole operator with access to 4G technology has been “extremely difficult”.
For Juan Carlos Cisneros, General Director of Alcatel Lucent ( 4G platform provider for CNT), the public operator has important variables that could be exploited and will allow them to grow: “CNT has two million telephone subscribers, or access points where users may require this technology,” he said.
