Ecuadornews:

For the offer, the President urged the Ministry of Industries to advise this group. BanEcuador, on the other hand, will provide loans for microenterprises. Recycling organizations in the country seek the help of the Executive to improve their working conditions.

This Thursday, June 7, they maintained an approach with the President of the Republic, Lenin Moreno. In the Urban Park of Cumandá, in the center of Quito, the President signed an agreement with the National Network of Recyclers. The idea is to improve working conditions and strengthen ventures.

The event is part of the celebrations of June as the Month of the Environment. The President talked and listened to the attendees. “We wanted that,” said some of the garbage workers. Moreno, in a speech of seven minutes, urged the Minister of Industries and Productivity, Eva García Fabre, for this portfolio to lead a process of advice for this group of workers in small industries.

The objective, in the first instance, is to create a store to offer the products that come from recycling. It would be located in the headquarters of the guild, in front of the Cumandá park. But it will not only be the accompaniment; the President urged BanEcuador to grant loans for these ventures.

The associates emphasized that with the offer of the Executive they have the expectation of becoming small entrepreneurs. “We are going to move forward the company from the network of recyclers. We will give them all the support, “he said. There is even the possibility that the State purchases the products that are made in this future environmental factory. “Everyone will be shareholders of this new company, including ministers,” Moreno concluded.

Waste treatment

This initiative is part of the new public policies on the subject. But waste treatment still worries, 50% of decentralized autonomous governments have open dumps, according to the Ministry of the Environment. The holder of this portfolio, Tarsicio Granizo, is concerned that the work of these people is not “well recognized”.

For Laura Guanoluisa, leader of the National Network of Waste Pickers, the agreement will help make their work visible. At the end of the event, Guanoluisa read a manifesto in the presence of Moreno. There he urged the Executive to make the necessary arrangements in order to obtain social insurance.

Raúl Ledesma, head of Labor, opened the window to that possibility. Analyze a possible special regime for these self-employed workers to have social security. The portfolio will open the dialogue to know the reality of waste pickers.

Ministry of the Environment urges control in Galapagos

On the public denunciations of the possible routes of the drug trafficking by the archipelago of Galápagos, the holder of the Ministry of the Environment, Tarsicio Granizo, recognized that the denunciation exists.

In this case, he said, the Ministry of the Interior, as well as the defense portfolio, and the Ecuadorian Navy are already investigating. “We know there are those routes. You have to act in a severe way, “he said. On the act with the association of waste pickers, the Minister highlighted the participation of this sector, and considered them as strategic allies in the integral management of waste and solid waste of the 22 Autonomous Municipal Decentralized Governments.

In addition, it is foreseen in the future to implement inclusive models in order to create sustainable cities within the framework of the Reverdecer Ecuador program. Berenice Cordero, minister of Economic and Social Inclusion; and Vanessa Bolaños, General Director of the Institute of Popular and Solidarity Economy. After the activity, the Head of State shared a lunch with citizens. (I)
