Most expensive pink diamond in history was sold

When it was thought that the orange diamond was the world’s most expensive gem, sold a few days ago by the auction house Christie’s at $ 30 million, its competitor, Sothebys, announced that yesterday a 59.60 carat pink diamond was sold for 73, 9 million dollars (55.1 million euros.)
The price increases to $ 83.2 million (62.3 million euros) when adding the taxes and fees. The gemstone became the most expensive diamond ever sold in auction.
The Diamond has a strong pink color (“fancy vivid pink”,) also has an oval shape and is mounted in a ring, weighing 11.92 grams. It was discovered in 1999 in a diamond mine in Africa by De Beers.
The auction house had valued this pink diamond named “Pink Star” at $ 60 million. The price at which the auction began, which lasted five minutes between buyers communicated via telephone, was $ 52 million.
