Ecuadornews:
The majority of Venezuelan citizens who enter Ecuador assure they cross the border for touristic reasons, or to reach Peru or Chile. However, many have come to stay.
This is the case of Adrianez Alarcón, from Isla Margarita, who was granted a 180-day visa.
This architect stayed seven months in the capital of Imbabura. Now, she is requesting the Visa Unasur, which would let her stay up to two years, in case of receiving a temporary visa, or a permanent visa.
According to data from the Office of Migration Control of Colombia, more than 95,000 Venezuelans crossed – between January and August – the Rumichaca Bridge, which links Ecuador and Colombia.
The Venezuelans would have reported that their destination was not only Ecuador but Peru and Chile. And they left their country in search of better opportunities, given the current conditions in Venezuela. Among the preferred destinations for Venezuelans in Ecuador are Guayaquil, Quito, Manta, Esmeraldas, and Imbabura.
In Peru is Lima. Apparently, they are looking for geographical conditions similar to their places of origin, such as the climate, says the Migration office. (I)
