Movistar workers will deliver a statement in defense of their profits
The employees of the telephone company Movistar will deliver on August 6 a statement to the Ministry of Labour Relations (MRL for its Spanish acronym) and the Presidency of the Republic, in which they will present their approaches against the project submitted by President Rafael Correa, that aims to reduce the profits of employees of telecommunications operators from 15% to 3%.
Juan Carlos Oleas, representative of Movistar employees, advanced yesterday that the document will include the legal reasons why they believe the project is unconstitutional.
“One of those things is that the radioelectric spectrum is not within article 408 and is not a non-renewable resource (…) we still declare that the law is discriminatory, that it affects workers and not the company,” said Oleas, who on Saturday August 2, together with his colleagues, saw the weekly address of President Correa.
A spokesman of the workers added that they will refer to Article 97 of the Labour Code which provides that “the employer or enterprise will recognize in benefit of itsworkers the fifteen percent (15%) of the net profits.”
