MPD Facilities were Closed in Quito due to Tax Breach
Posted On 06 Jun 2011
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) closed this afternoon Friday the facilities of the Popular Democratic Movement Party (MPD) in Quito, for a period of seven days. Its leader, Luis Villacis, described the measure as part of a political persecution.
“We are victims of a political persecution by the government of (President) Rafael Correa, because he thinks he is going to silence our voice with this closure,” said Villacís who announced that no matter what they will take to the streets to say NO “to the economic package” that the country suffers.
The SRI said that before the closure, 10 warnings of punishment due to tax breach were sent to the main representative of the MPD.
