Muammar Gadhafi Fell in Sirte

Colonel Ahmed Bani, the military spokesman of the National Transition Council, has confirmed to Al Jazeera that the Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi was killed while fleeing from Sirte.

Abdul Hakim Belhaj, an NTC military official, informed that Gadhafi perished by the wounds he suffered after being captured near his hometown Sirte. The corpse of the former Libyan tyrant was taken to an undisclosed location for security reasons. During his escape attempt Gadhafi was shot in both legs.

NATO and US officials stated that they could not confirm any reports. In Benghazi, the streets were filled with crowds that started to celebrate the death of Gadhafi. (AV)
