Municipality would assume taxes to promote shows in Guayaquil

Posted On 05 Aug 2013

Mayor Jaime Nebot said during the session of the Council, last July 18, that the idea that Guayaquil becomes a city destination for shows of international artists concerned him.

The mayor said that the city can be also an artistic tourist destination city like Lima, but to achieve this the municipality should assume a compensation to the Guayaquil Welfare Board (JBG), favoured by a special law which determines the payment of 10% of the total capacity of a show.

President Rafael Correa said during his citizen broadcast  on last July 27, that the Government will eliminate taxes on live shows box office to encourage the arrival of artists of the importance of those who go to Peru and Colombia.

For his part, Nebot said during the session, that if he has to give an  “annual allowance for the JBG” to compensate for that small amount in exchange for the elimination of  that 10%, he would not have a problem.

The assignment that corresponds to the Welfare Board is part of a list of taxes, fees and obligations involving up to 11 areas, between organizations related to artists like Sayce and Asapg.

The municipality of Guayaquil appointed on July , Gloria Gallardo Zavala as Director of tourism in a plan that seeks to turn Guayaquil into a national and international tourist destination.
