Emotionals farewelss for Chucho Benitez

In Quito, thousands of people said goodbye to Chucho Benitez in the chapel at the Rumiñahui General Coliseum and along the way to the  Monteolivo cemetery where his mortal remains rest since yesterday. Similarly, those attending the match between El Nacional and Deportivo Quevedo witnessed the homage of the club’s players where he started as a player and in Mexico, the Americas, with whom he was  champion  last season,  paid him tribute after winning  3 to 0 against Atlas.

The burial of his remains was done in an intimate ceremony with family and friends, but once the funeral mass at the Coliseum ended,  the coffin left the place with heavy police protection and the funeral procession caused commotion in the capital, who turned to the streets to say goodbye to the striker and its passage was cheered by hundreds of fans, who came to the stadium for a posthumous tribute.

Meanwhile, the Ecuadorian player Narciso Mina scored the first of the three goals with which the America beat the Atlas 3-0 yesterday and with which, incidentally, paid tribute to Christian Benitez, at the start of the fourth day of the Mexican Opening.

During the match, in the 11th minute, the fans who filled the Azteca stadium stood and applauded as a tribute to Benitez. “Oe oe oe oe Chucho, Chucho” the crowd shouted with one voice remembering the Ecuadorian striker.

Also in Quito, in the Atahualpa Olympic Stadium, during the match between El Nacional and Quevedo, Marwin Pita, had an emotional celebration after scoring the 1-0. After the conquest, the military staff met in the northern corner of the field to make  a bow to pay tribute to Chucho.  Pita raised the club shirt with the number 11, the number  that Benitez wore during his stay on that club.
