National Assembly supported the veto on Mining Law
Yesterday, with 98 votes in favor, 6 against and 18 abstentions, the legislature, with a majority of ruling party members, supported the presidential veto of the Mining Law.
The Assembly agreed with the objections of the Executive that only people who were identified in the 2010 mining census, will be regularized within 180 days.
It was also included that the mining processes must have production manifests and statements from the dealers through a notarized legal document.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie), presented yesterday at the Constitutional Court, an action for failing to fulfill obligations in regard of the Court’s judgment about mining reforms, since they ensure that the law is unconstitutional because there was no pre-legislative consultation.

Members of the Conaie went to the Court to present an action against the mining law.
