The Court of Execution of the Bribery case, in which the former minister María de los Ángeles Duarte is sentenced, ordered that a red notice be published, for her location and detention. The Court must analyze whether to proceed in the same way with former minister Walter Solís.
The Court of Enforcement of the Bribery case issued, on April 12, 2023, an order in which it provides that the central office of Interpol Ecuador request the publication of the red notice for former minister María de los Ángeles Duarte.
The decision came a few days after Duarte left the Argentine Embassy in Ecuador irregularly, on March 13, 2023. His current whereabouts are unknown, however there was talk that he would be in Venezuela.
For this reason, the Execution Court asked Interpol to issue the red notice to achieve their location and detention at the international level, according to a ruling in the case.
For this purpose, the judges order that Interpol be notified, attaching the sentence of April 26, 2020, when a chamber of the National Court found Duarte guilty as a co-perpetrator of the crime of aggravated passive bribery and sentenced her to eight years in prison. In addition, they ask to attach the judgment of second instance and the one of cassation, which confirmed the sentence.
Duarte and his son have been at the Argentine Embassy in Ecuador since August 2020.
Walter Solís may also be extradited
Within the same ruling, the Execution Court ordered that the case of former minister Walter Solís be referred to the president of the National Court of Justice, Iván Saquicela, so that he can rule on whether it is appropriate to start his extradition process.
According to this process, Solís is in Mexico, where there are also other correístas linked in other judicial cases.
