National Strike in Chile Generated a Larger Scale of Social Unrest
During this morning, in the second day of national strike called by the Confederation of Workers (CUT), Chile, reported several riots in the streets by the protesters, who demand the government to improve the education system, policy and economic reforms.
After a night of looting, skirmishing and wailing with pans, reports show that there are at least 108 detainees, 285 public transport buses were damaged by groups of hooded, confrontation with police that left six policemen injured, burned tires to block tracks added to the 348 arrests on Wednesday at the start of the 48-hour strike.
“The government is willing to talk directly to them (workers and students),” has expressed Piñera.
For today four strikes are convened. The Government has authorized them to strike in the Chilean capital. Strikes are only forbidden in one of the paths, which of the most important avenues, but the final concentration is expected to reach La Moneda Palace. (BG)
