El Universo Case: Judge Gamboa asks to be Withdrawn from his Post
Stevie Gamboa, who took office last Friday as deputy Judge for the Second Criminal Chamber, sent this morning a letter to the Judiciary asking them to rescind him from the assignment of the office that is handling El Universo case.
The application published in Bureau of Analysis, which is dated today, is addressed to the provincial director of the Judicial Council of Guayas, Ivan Espinoza Pino, and says: “I address to you to inform you that because of professional commitments that I had before the request that the Second Criminal Chamber of the Provincial Court of Justice of Guayas offered me to work as a deputy judge in this office, according to Personnel Action (No. 4461-UARH-KZF) dated August 19, 2011, I will not be able to continue doing this work.”
Gamboa had been questioned for his friendship at university classrooms with President Rafael Correa’s attorney, and because he apparently does not have seven years working in the judiciary, a determined by the regulations.
Additionally, this morning the President of the Court of Guayas, Maria Leonor Jimenez, was informed about a penalty for her, so deputy judge of the second courtroom, Primo Diaz Garaicoa, should assume the presidency of the Court.
The penalty notice for the President of the Justice Court of Guayas, Maria Leonor Jimenez, is expected to arrive in the evening.
